Benedikt, born in Germany and now living in Switzerland and Berlin, is composer and producer and his works for concert platform, film and artist-collaborations are spreading his reputation worldwide.
He first studied Composition with Wilfried Hiller in Munich and later with Georg Friedrich Haas and Erik Oña in Basel. He passed masterclasses with Beat Furrer and Kevin Volans and several residency programs like Cité des Arts in Paris and Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart.
Many of his works have been performed by orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists. Recent works which have been performed are: his compositions "Kanon" for Cello Solo and Live electronics (22 June 07 performed by Gavriel Lipkind at the Ludwigsburger Festival für Neue Musik); Ton for 16 Musicians (Ensemble Phoenix with Music Director Jürg Henneberger, 30 June 07 Basel); KADENZ for Double bass, 2 Celli and Harp (13 November 2007 in Vienna, Wien Modern); sans souffle for Chamber Orchestra (Ensemble Phoenix, Basel 2008). Also the Music Theatre piece Lamento for 2 Sopranos, Bass and Ensemble (9 November 2006 in Frankfurt).
His music has also been used in films such as "Enigma, eine uneingestandene Liebe", a film by Volker Schlöndorff (2005); "Milchwald" (Cannes 2003), "Der Falsche Bekenner" (2005) and "Unter dir die Stadt" (Cannes 2010) by Christoph Hochhäusler.
Recent sound installation work by Benedikt was specially commissioned by the Swiss Pavilion at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
From 2006 on he began to dedicate his work to microtonal music using spectral methods. By the experience of experimenting with especially created algorithms, Benedikt also operates with computer generated structures in order to support his affectation for a reduced aesthetic.
